💡✍️ADN #125: Be More
Apr 06, 2025When it comes to building a career in the music industry, there are things you can and cannot control.
Here is a simple way to stay focused on what you can.
Be more than everyone else.
Be more consistent with what you can control and be more oblivious to what you cannot control.
Too many artists get wrapped up in what they can’t control and lose focus on what they can.
What do I mean?
If you’re more consistent at writing songs, recording, releasing, and telling the story (promoting) of how you are doing the first 3 and why you will fly past 99% of artists.
That doesn’t mean it is easy.
And that doesn’t mean that you should just put out or promote anything.
The most consistent artists release a song every couple of months (on average) and an album every year (on average).
To do that, you typically have to write a lot of music that doesn’t make the cut.
That is why I say, “Be more.”
The more you can be in your creative process and putting that process out into the world the more progress you will make and the more momentum you will build for your next release.
The same thought process can be applied to your audience.
Be more attentive to your fans than other artists, and your audience will be more invested in you.
The same is true for your merchandise.
Be more invested in the quantities and quality of your merch and you can sell your merch for a higher profit margin.
When you wake up, whether you feel motivated or don’t know where to go, always ask yourself where you can be more for your career (and Artist Development) and then take a little step forward.
If you do this daily, you will always be more than you were yesterday, and you’ll know you’re on your way to where you want to be tomorrow.
