💡✍️ADN #106: The Muse In The Mundane
Dec 01, 2024This week was off from my typical workflow because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Due to this, I didn’t get as much done through emails, phone calls, and meetings, and I didn’t make much money.
What I did get done was a lot of thinking.
And thinking time is valuable.
Removing my ability to get the next thing done out of respect for people’s space during the holiday allowed the room to explore what was in the room for a few days.
I went into the week in a good groove for work and was a bit frustrated by feeling the need to slow down because a holiday said so.
I’ve come out of the week with an appreciation for the slowdown, which allowed me to rediscover the muse in the mundane.
After a day, my creativity shifted from being shut down by an annual event in my calendar to being focused on the micro-moments around me.
Suddenly, the silence in the air sounded like a song.
The words from my daughter’s mouth sounded like lyrics.
The stories my elders told were counterpoint perspectives I had the capacity to consider.
The mundane wasn’t mundane at all.
It was inspiring.
I’ve spent a lot of energy rebelling against being told where to go or what to do in my life, and the truth is I’m probably not done pushing back.
This week, I learned that rather than pushing back at others or a day on a calendar, I could rebel against my average work week by getting lost in what could have been a lost week.
As it turns out, this lost week wasn’t lost at all.
And the muse in the mundane is more interesting than the muse in most Mondays.
Takeaways-
- Separation leads to liberation
- Liberation leads to observation
- Observation leads to contemplation
- Contemplation leads to creation
Aka — How do you find the muse in what seems mundane?
Slow down and look around.
Little miracles are everywhere.
See you next Sunday -
