💡✍️ADN #086: How To Get To Your Goal Faster
Jul 14, 2024We all have a speed.
Our own pace.
Some are in a hurry, and some take their time.
This morning, I was out for a walk in my neighborhood.
A slow walk.
I enjoy the quiet time in the morning to think and set my intentions for the day.
However, this morning, I was unsatisfied with the pace our businesses are growing.
At that moment, I saw a man with his dog to my left.
They were running.
They were running up the hill that I was about to walk up at my leisurely pace.
By the time I got to the top of the hill, they were nowhere to be seen.
Gone.
Already onto the next hill to climb.
What an obvious example of why pace is so important.
It got me thinking about short-term vs. long-term speeds.
Here’s the thing —
You always want to exist at two paces in life, business, and artistic development.
Today, you are a sprinter.
You are taking on the day with all the energy, focus, and intention you can muster.
In the long view, you are a walker.
Slow and steady.
You are taking your time because you know that the energy, focus, and intention will compound and provide the future you imagine for yourself, your business, and your artistic development.
It’s a bit of a trick of the mind to be both — relentless daily but calm and patient about the future and where you aren’t yet.
These two work well together because your daily maximum effort will give you confidence in your long-term goals.
Finally, don’t imagine the world passing you by the next time you see someone run by you.
Imagine that person is you.
Remember that you control your pace.
The race you are running is with yourself.
Alright, I’m off for a run.
See you next Sunday,
Neil
