💡✍️ADN #077: Capture What You're Up To Anyway
May 12, 2024It's easy to get so wrapped up in your work that you forget to show the world.
It's also easy to think your actions won't interest someone else.
But the truth is, they absolutely will.
Some music fans will be interested in your story, whether you are writing, recording, performing, or doing one of the thousand tasks that must be done in between.
Here is a simple framework for my artist friends out there.
We'll call it the C.A.S.E. method.
- Capture
- Archive
- Share
- Experiment
Take stock of the work you're doing and the time you are putting in.
Step One — Capture
Pull out your phone and turn on the video camera.
- When you are writing a song
- When you are packing T-shirts
- When you are packing the van
- When you drive out of town
- When you drive into town
- When you soundcheck
- When you go on stage
- When you get off-stage
Hit the record button as often as possible.
Step Two — Archive
Set up an iCloud account that automatically archives your footage as you go.
Here is my simple method for this.
Step Three — Share
- Share with your email list
- Share with your Fan Club
- Share with press
- Share with DSPs
- Share with your team
If you get overwhelmed by social media, check out this scheduling method.
Step Four — Experiment
There is not one right way to succeed in the music business.
You carve your path every day.
Sure, there are tips, tricks, and lessons to be learned, but the next superstar won't do things like the last one did.
They may learn from some of their successes and failures, but each artist's path looks different.
So, don't be afraid to try new ideas out.
If one doesn't take off, it will still help you develop the next one to try.
Here are three clips from the tour my band is doing in the UK.
We are using this method daily while traveling.
See you next Sunday!
