π‘βοΈ ADN #007: Accountability Partners
Jan 08, 2023Hey Friends -
Welcome to the Artist Development Newsletter.
Last week we kicked off the year by talking about your 2023 goals.
You can re-read the newsletter here if you want to refresh.
Today we will discuss accountability partners.
Let’s jump in.
_____________________________________________________________
How do you know you are climbing the right mountain?
How do you know if you are using your skills and talents to their true potential?
Do you see yourself as clearly as the people around you, or do you have a made-up version of who you are in your head?
Are you doing the things you need to be to get from point A to point B?
These are questions I ask myself often.
We all want to ensure we are on the right path and walking in the right direction.
Holding ourselves accountable not only for our daily actions but also to ensure we maximize our potential.
In the music business, accountability can be the biggest unlock for success.
When it comes to accountability, it is simple.
“Surround yourself with people that make you want to be better.”
As an artist in the music business, this is your “team” (AKAβ—βmanager, agent, business manager, lawyer, band members, etc.)
You should vet your potential team with accountability in mind.
Ask yourself:
Will this person hold me accountable for my actions and help me keep moving toward my goals?
If the answer is yes, then…
- Tell those people your goals.
- Ask them to hold you accountable for the actions you both think will lead to the success you are after.
- Set a time to check in with each other (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.)
- Give them permission to be brutally honest with you.
- Listen to their constructive feedback.
- Discuss their feedback.
- Adapt your plan.
- Repeat these steps.
- Keep refining.
- Keep zooming in on how to improve.
Find accountability partners you can count on, and be someone they can count on.
That’s it for this week.
See you next Sunday!
